Der Mittagskogel, slowenisch Kepa (kärntner-slowenisch Jepa), ist mit einer Höhe von 2145 m ü. A. einer der höchsten Berge der westlichen Karawanken. Er liegt an der österreichisch-slowenischen Grenze.

Die Richtung Norden weisende steil abfallende Felsflanke gibt dem Berg ein charakteristisches Aussehen. Die einzige Schutzhütte ist die auf 1527 m gelegene Bertahütte. Von dort führt der markierte Normalweg über die Nordost- und Ostseite und am Schluss über den Südostgrat auf den Gipfel.

Eine weitere Aufstiegsmöglichkeit bietet ein Steig von der ehemaligen Annahütte aus über den Nordwestgrat, der der Staatsgrenze folgt. An diesem Grat liegt auch der Kleine Mittagskogel, slow. Koroska Mela Kepa oder Jepca ( ♁ 1815 m ). Ein Steig über den Nordostgrat führt im Schwierigkeitsgrad I-II zum Gipfel.

Wie nahe kann man dem Berg mit Öffis bzw. Taxi vom Bahnhof Villach aus kommen?

Sehr geehrter Herr Luftensteiner, mit dem Zug wären in Ledenitzen und mit dem Bus in Ledenitzen beim Hotel Mittagskogel die nähesten Haltestellen. Der ÖAV hat die Beschilderung Richtung Mittagskogel bis zur Bahnhaltestelle erweitert. Alternative lohnenswerte Tour: https://touren.kaernten.at/de/tour/bahnwandern/rail-trail-ferlacher-spitze-verstecktes-panoramaglueck-/808060934/ Mit dem Taxi könnten Sie sich bis nach Kopein fahren lassen. Ab dort beginnt der unbefestigte Zufahrtsweg zum Sommerparkplatz (45 Gehminuten unter der Bertahütte). Meines Wissens fährt kein Taxifahrer bis zum Parkplatz.
