A beautiful ski tour to the Karkogel, which offers a wonderful view from the summit of Platten-, Mandl-, and Keeskogel and the associated, stunning ski touring area. The descent requires careful route choice and good skiing skills. Do not ski off the forest road from Hirschgrubenalm hut towards the north, as there is a wildlife feeding area (wildlife protection zone) at the end of the pasture!
With sufficient snow cover, the ski tour to Karkogel is easily doable from early winter through spring.
After a wonderful ski tour, many ski tourers meet at the Aschaustüberl, where you are also spoiled with delicacies.

ASCENT: approx. 3 hours
The ascent starts at the parking lot (avalanche beacon checkpoint at the bridge) behind the Steinmannbauer via a service road to a large meadow, which is crossed up to the forest boundary. A short steep section through the forest leads to the forest road to Hirschgrubenalm. After about 100 m, you leave this again to the left and continue on a forest path towards Hirschgrubenalm. The large alpine pasture is crossed on the southern side - passing a hunting hut on the left - until the hiking trail to Aschlreitalm is reached. After a short section on the marked trail, you leave it to the right and climb through a steep forest section towards the northeast-facing cirque. From here, you proceed over moderately steep, hilly terrain to the summit of Karkogel, 2,087 m.
DESCENT: approx. 1 hour
In the area of the ascent route, if conditions are safe, you can ski almost down the steep cirque to the Hirschgrubenalm hut, but above it you must sharply turn right to get back on the ascent track. Follow this track back to the starting point.
