The Geierkogel is an easy ski route and correspondingly popular. The ascent is technically simple and can be a good alternative destination even in less than ideal conditions. From the summit, weather permitting, there is a beautiful view of the nearby Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzbühel Alps.
Author’s recommendation
The Hecherhütte is also open in winter!

HecherhütteSafety information
Despite the proximity to the slope, avalanche emergency equipment should definitely be carried!Tips and suggestions
The route should only be done in the indicated direction to avoid conflicts with the ski slope operators and the slope should not be ascended.Roadbook
Along the valley descent (slope to Viehhofen) ascend about 300 m until the road is crossed. (The road leads to the Hecherhütte), continue over a slightly ascending slope (about 200 m) and through dense forest until a ridge, which becomes flatter and open. After crossing the power line, keep left (to the northwest) over a steepening slope to the summit at 1853 m. DESCENT: Follow the ascent track until you reach a forest strip after the first open slope. From there keep geographically right over a flat slope until you join the ski slope (about 1550 m). Follow the slope back to the starting point.
