Fluchtkogel and Weißseespitze from the Vernagthütte
You can reach the Vernagthütte from Vent (Rofenhöfe) via the slopes of the Plateiberg around the Vernagtegg (classic hut ascent) or from Mittelberg using the Pitztaler cable cars via Mittelbergjoch and Brochkogeljoch descending via the Vernagtferner.
The 800 m ski tour to the Fluchtkogel is varied but, with missing daytime warming, is somewhat short as a day tour from the Vernagthütte. Therefore, beyond the Kesselwandferner, some additional extension goals are offered. These are the three Hintereisspitzen, the Zinne, the Hochvernaglwand, and the most distant Weißseespitze, which is reached via a very broad, gently rising, and crevasse-poor glacier ridge.

We walk past the hut's winter room into the hollow of the lateral moraine of the Guslarferner. We climb steeply up it or cross at a suitable place onto the ridge of the moraine to the left and follow it upwards on a narrow path. This ridge ends at the rocky south flank of the Hintergrasspitze. Just before, you cross into the steep flank of the moraine and follow it almost level around a rock edge into a flattening. Now you can slide down freely into the lower basin of the Guslarferner. The basin is crossed flat westwards and the following broad steep stage to the upper glacier basin is overcome. Soon it becomes steeper again as we approach the Upper Guslarjoch. From the pass, we turn right and overcome the steep south slope of the Fluchtkogel. The flank levels off a bit, and it goes straight northwards up to the summit cross.
Descent over the steep south flank onto the upper plateau of the Kesselwandferner. We steer with a slight incline towards the Kesselwandjoch left below the Brandenburger House. Now we reach the upper, very flat Gepatschferner by a slightly wavy up and down. At the latest in the hollow to the right of the Zinne, skins must be put on. In a very wide right bend, we follow the barely visible broad glacier ridge. The incline is moderate. Soon we see rock formations, which we bypass on the left. After a flattening, we reach the large summit dome of the Weißseespitze; the summit cross is just visible on the horizon. We aim for it. The last rocky meters to the summit cross are overcome on foot. The highest point is located slightly east in the center of the flat summit dome.
Remove skins. We descend at a moderate slope close to the ascent route into the hollow to the left of the Zinne, put skins on and cross gently up and down back to the Kesselwandjoch. The Upper Guslarjoch to the right of the Fluchtkogel is targeted. The Kesselwandferner is crossed, then finally somewhat steeper in the right bend the Upper Guslarjoch is reached. Remove skins. We first descend quite steeply into the Guslarferner and follow the glacier in a wide right bend to its lower end. In the flat Guslartal, we can cross into the initial steep lateral moraine to reach the Vernagthütte without a final ascent. It is easier to continue down the flat valley to just before the bridge, where we reach the ascent route from Vent. Put skins on and climb about 200 meters of elevation along the main path to the Vernagthütte in a flatter moraine outlet in a slight hollow.
