SöldenhütteRoadbook
From the inn, the very flat slope is ascended northeastwards. On the marked summer path, it goes steeply through dense forest to the open slopes near the Söldenhütte (this can also be reached via the disused piste around the Wenghofköpfl). Now the south slopes of the Napf must be crossed ascending past the Söldenhütte to reach the steep but wide south gully under the Tauernscharte. This section is quite avalanche-prone. In the gully, the ascent is made in large switchbacks. A basin-shaped flattening and its northern steep boundary are mostly overcome on the east side of the steep slopes of the Tauernkogel. A few terrain humps then lead to the Tauernscharte. We cross flatly under the Napf northern slopes westward to the edge of the terrain. A rocky steep step leads 50 meters down into the Eiskogel basin, which we carefully slide down with skins. The basin is traversed to its steep western boundary. Now the steep slope to the wide saddle is overcome in several terrain-adjusted stages. In a left-hand bend, we aim for the broad and steep eastern ridge of the Eiskogel. In a few hairpins, we reach the summit dome of the Eiskogel with a beautiful wooden crucifix.
Descent over the steep summit slope into the basin, short counter ascent to the Tauernscharte and through the Tauernkar (possibly with a break at the Hacklhütte) down the ascent route to the starting point - the descent via the old Wenghofköpfl piste has been afforested and is no longer permitted.
