From the Karteisgraben over the Draugsteinalm to the Filzmoossattel and steeply on the summer path to the Draugstein.
The Draugstein is rarely climbed from the Karteis side in winter. With good firn, however, there is an excellently beautiful descent over consistently steep slopes. If the snow stability allows, one can descend directly over the southwest flank.

Roadbook
From the parking lot or from the Halmoosalm, go into the valley on the forest road in the Karteisgraben. Pass the valley stations of the material cable cars to the Karteisalm and Draugsteinalm, then cross the Neumaissgraben. About 100 meters uphill over a slope, then again roughly following the line of the summer path and crossing the Bachgraben (small bridge) at an appropriate place. Alternatively, ascend a bit higher and then cross flat, finally slightly descending into the ravine, which you reach directly at the transition of the summer path. In both cases, crossing the ravine can be somewhat unpleasant under unfavorable conditions. On the opposite slope, steeply up to the Draugsteinalm.
From the alm, ascend northwards over steep slopes as far as you can until you can enter the cirque beneath the rocks of the Draugstein, keeping not too high. Through a short gully onto the flat ground at the foot of the southwest flank of the Draugstein. Northeast into the Filzmoossattel. As far as possible, ski up along the summer path, but mostly a detachment of skis will be necessary soon. Carry the skis over the sometimes narrow ridge as long as your skill and the snow conditions allow. Where the ridge gets steeper, cross the southwest flank diagonally to the right uphill (if the summer path is visible, follow it) and over steep slopes to the start of the rocky summit formation. At the latest here will be the ski depot. Ideally, one could even start the descent from the notch below the summit; very steep, over 40 degrees. Up over easy rocks (1-), partly secured with wire ropes, over a corner into a gully and steeply up through this into a small notch. Left again steep, then easy to the exposed summit cross.
The descent follows the ascent route.
If absolutely stable snow conditions prevail, the southwest flank offers a spicy descent (35 to just under 40 degrees). Note that the steep grassy slope represents an ideal avalanche slide path!
