Beautiful cycling route that runs past the World Cup ski slope and the Zelenci nature reserve.
The former railway, which ran eastwards from Rateče, is now the route of a cycle path that leads us from Kranjska Gora both to Rateče and on the other side to Jesenice. The route is suitable for a family outing and is also used by roller skaters and hikers besides cyclists, so be considerate of others as we are the fastest with the bikes. Many children get introduced here to their first cycling kilometers, as the route is flat, wide, and paved.
We cycle from Kranjska Gora past Podkoren, which lies on the opposite bank of the Sava Dolinka river, on the sunny side of the valley, shaped in the past by glaciers. Shortly after Podkoren we arrive at the Zelenci nature reserve, where the Sava Dolinka springs. The name indicates the color of the small lake that lies on swampy terrain. Shortly after Zelenci, the valley opens and to the south branches off the Planica valley, which hides the well-known ski jumping hills. A little further, we reach Rateče, the last village before the border with Italy and one of the coldest places in the country.

Safety information
15 rules that cyclists must follow:
1. Pay attention to traffic signals (traffic signs) and obey them!
2. Do not ride under the influence of alcohol!
3. Before changing direction, look several times behind you and signal your intent in time and decisively.
4. Respect the right-of-way rules applicable to cyclists at intersections, especially where cycle paths are marked.
5. Ride on the cycle path and cycle lane or route. Always use only the surface intended for cyclists (marked with traffic signs and road markings). On such surfaces, you must ride on the right cycle path according to the permitted direction of travel; on a two-way cycle path, ride on the right side of the path.
6. If there is no cycle path or lane, ride on the right edge of the roadway in the direction of travel, as close as possible to the edge.
7. At night and in reduced visibility, you must have a white light on the front of the bike for road illumination, and a red position light on the rear of the bike. A red reflector must be installed there, yellow or orange reflectors on both sides of the pedals, and yellow or orange side reflectors on the wheels.
8. If you ride in a group of cyclists, ride one behind another.
9. Be especially careful at intersections, signal your direction clearly with your hand, and make sure you have been seen. If the situation is unclear, rather get off your bike and walk across the intersection.
10. To be noticed faster by other road users, pedestrians, and drivers, use a bell.
11. At night, make sure you are more visible (lights and reflectors are mandatory, bright clothing is recommended).
12. Carry luggage in a basket intended for this or attached to the carrier. Keep your hands free for steering and signaling direction.
13. You must never: release the handlebars, lift your feet off the pedals, lead, pull or push other vehicles, let yourself be pulled or pushed, carry objects that would hinder your riding, or carry other people unless otherwise prescribed by law.
14. Mandatory equipment for the bicycle includes a bell, road illumination light, a red rear light, red rear reflectors, yellow pedal reflectors, functioning rear and front brakes, and side reflectors.
15. The driver and passenger on the bike must wear an appropriate securely fastened protective cycling helmet until they reach 18 years of age. Helmets are also recommended for adult cyclists.
