From Rheinfelden, the route heads west towards Basel. You reach Switzerland, but then immediately leave it again in a northerly direction. After passing Efringen-Kirchen, you cycle along the Rhine in the Markgräflerland region, which is known for its beautiful weather and pleasant temperatures.
The northernmost point of the route is Schliengen. The terrain becomes more challenging. Once you reach Kandern, the route climbs up the Scheidegg (550 metres). This section is very popular with local cyclists and is often used as a sporting benchmark. On the Scheidegg, there is the option of descending directly to Schlechtenau/Steinen. However, the route here leads further up to Endenburg, Kirchhausen, Lehnacker (700m).
The following descent is challenging. There are steep gradients that lead through villages and wooded areas. It is highly recommended to approach the descent responsibly.
To get back to Rheinfelden, after Schopfheim and Maulburg there is the final ascent up the Dinkelberg (450m).
