Three Lakes Route: Basel - Mariastein
The Three Lakes Route connects the "Regio Basiliensis" with the Romandie, where it flows into the "Romandie Route" near Payerne, which continues via Geneva to France.
This first stage begins in the heart of the city of Basel, at the ship landing, where the Middle Bridge connects "Grossbasel" with "Kleinbasel." We stay on the Grossbasel side and pass the Minster with the scenic palace, where pilgrims from Alsace from the Vosges and pilgrims from the Baden area can say goodbye once again to the Black Forest. Then follows another historical part of Basel, the St. Alban suburb.
Along the "Dalbedych," a picturesque, old industrial canal, we leave the city and pass under a number of busy traffic arteries until we reach the border with Baselbiet by the St. Jakob football stadium. Here, the flat variant "along the Birs" separates, which shortly before Delémont rejoins the main axis.
