When exploring today's stage, it becomes apparent that we have already walked a similar route - on footpaths along the left bank of the Traun - with few refreshment options and sights. The main attraction is thus the river landscape of the Traun itself, along which almost the entire route today runs again. But not quite!
Because the town of Marchtrenk has created its own Peace Path, which is part of the Jerusalem Way! The thus longer route than the direct one (variant A) along the Traun is recommended for several reasons. It offers several refreshment and possible accommodation options, provides a welcome change in the monotony of today's stage, and fits thematically with the Jerusalem Peace Path. We pass the Traun power plant and a little later (just over 1 km) see the Fishermen's Chapel on the right-hand side. Immediately thereafter we turn left and go northwards, reaching, among other things, the outdoor swimming pool - which invites us to bathe on a hot day - pass through the underpass of Federal Road 1 and arrive at the center of Marchtrenk. At the small roundabout, we keep left to reach the already visible Catholic parish church. Here is also the first information board on our route on the "Marchtrenk Peace Path." Based on various boards, the pilgrim is informed along the way, among other things, about a huge prisoner-of-war camp from World War I and about essential aspects of the settlement of Marchtrenk by displaced persons after World War II.
But first, we go a short distance back towards the center, where several refreshment options now allow our well-deserved break. Refreshed and invigorated, we now follow the "Marchtrenk Peace Path" northwards until the Evangelical parish church, from where the path basically leads us east again, where we pass several Peace Path boards as well as a guiding star pyramid (symbol for peace, freedom, and justice). Shortly after this stone pyramid, the path finally leads us southeast to the bank of the Traun, which we follow further east- or downstream. The stage destination Hörsching, by the way, borders directly on the airport grounds of the same name south of the runways. We then leave the urban area heading south and reach the Traun river again. With these special impressions and
Note(s)
The "Jerusalem Way / JERUSALEM WAY" is a pilgrimage network that leads pilgrims from Central Europe to Jerusalem. Jerusalem, together with Rome and Santiago de Compostela, is one of the 3 most important Christian pilgrimage destinations of the Middle Ages. This path begins at Cape Finisterre on Europe's west coast and leads either through Italy or along the Danube through the Balkans into Turkey, and from there on a common route to Jerusalem again.
