Today we return to the river "Le Lot" in the department of Lot, which we could also have followed from Cahors to Cajarc. However, in this section, the Le Lot has lost its gradient and, with its wide meanders, practically occupies the entire valley floor, even pushing the main road to the edge of the valley floor. Therefore, between Cahors and Cajarc, we follow a historical alternative route.
This route crosses a limestone plateau, which we will continue to have under our feet in the following stages. It is sparsely vegetated. Thanks to the oaks growing here, the area is also blessed with truffles, which cannot be cultivated and are usually searched for with pigs or dogs trained to find truffles.
Limogne-en-Quercy is not particularly large, but it is still the biggest place on today's stage.
Culturally, our stage town Cajarc is known as the birthplace of the successful novelist Françoise Sagan, born here on June 21, 1935. For pilgrims, Cajarc with its hospital was already an important base in the Middle Ages, and today Cajarc is known as a center for growing saffron, delicious both aromatically and financially.
Note(s)
The "Jerusalem Way / JERUSALEM WAY" is a pilgrimage network that leads pilgrims from Central Europe to Jerusalem. Jerusalem, together with Rome and Santiago de Compostela, is one of the three most important Christian pilgrimage destinations of the Middle Ages. This route begins at Cape Finisterra on the western coast of Europe and either passes through Italy or follows the Danube through the Balkans to Turkey, from where it continues on a common route to Jerusalem.
