Today's stage takes us northwards from the border area to a motorway. In Gois, we have a beautiful view from the hill where the church stands, along with a pilgrimage column. Later, the Laschenskyhof invites us to a cozy break, with fine weather in the beer garden. We have now been in the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim for a while; it encompasses numerous villages and is considered the "largest village in Austria" with over 13,000 inhabitants. The journey continues as before in the greater area of the Salzburg motorway interchange, and we later encounter the southern end of the "Salzburg Airport W.A. Mozart" runway, accompanied by the sounds of planes taking off and landing, similar to what we experienced in Innsbruck. All these transport routes are signs of a city that is popular with businesspeople and especially tourists visiting Salzburg. We will soon meet these in the Salzburg Old Town, where we also come across Salzburg Cathedral and Mozart's birthplace.
This stage does not end in Salzburg, which does not mean that staying overnight here is not allowed, as Salzburg has a lot, very much to offer.
The route continues northwards along the Salzach, first on the left bank, later on the right bank, where after crossing a motorway, we reach the pilgrimage church Maria Plain on the Plainberg near Bergheim, another highlight of this stage. To continue the pilgrimage, we go back a short way on the same path, and at the inn "Zur Plainlinde," we then turn eastwards. This brings us via Berg and Hallwang to the stage town of Eugendorf.
Note(s)
The "Jerusalem Way / JERUSALEM WAY" is a network of pilgrimage routes that leads pilgrims from Central Europe to Jerusalem. Jerusalem, together with Rome and Santiago de Compostela, is one of the three most important Christian pilgrimage destinations of the Middle Ages. This path starts at Cape Finisterre on the western coast of Europe and leads either through Italy or along the Danube through the Balkans to Turkey, and from there along a common route to Jerusalem.
