Coniolo ring path - path 751 on foot
The route offers splendid panoramic views of the Po river, the Vercelli plain, and the Alpine arc.
The route starts from Piazza Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa, near the municipal office, where there is an informational board about the itinerary and from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Vercelli plain; the path takes Via Fratelli Bandiera towards Casale and at the fork keeps to the left (Via Mombuè), following the paved lane that descends towards the valley floor.
Upon reaching the proximity of the river, the itinerary turns left, taking the unpaved carriage road that runs alongside the Po for a long stretch, offering enchanting views of the great watercourse; along the route, there are some panels illustrating the mining activities of past decades and the systems used to transport the materials.
The path passes the localities Porto Vecchio and Porto Nuovo, where historically a ferry connected the two riverbanks, and then begins to climb with wide hairpin bends towards the nucleus of Coniolo Basso, passing near the sports center, where it turns right.
After passing through Coniolo Basso, the route reaches the Case Mongò, where it turns right, reaching the Cascine Zerbi; the path turns left, leaving the asphalt and taking the country road downhill that shortly climbs again to the provincial road connecting Coniolo and Pontestura: here there is an interesting testimony, the small narrow-gauge train that operated in the mines of the area, placed in memory of the harsh living conditions of the workers in the past century.
The itinerary continues straight on asphalt for a short stretch and then turns left onto the dirt road that winds through the valley floor until it finds the left deviation that climbs towards Coniolo Bricco and leads back to the town hall square, from where the route started.
