Camino Francés. Stage 2. Roncesvalles - Zubiri
Viando
This shows stage 2 of the Camino Francés between Roncesvalles (in Basque, Orreaga) and Zubiri.
The route of this first stage is typical mountain terrain, with trails, dirt roads, and rocky sections. The Camino begins by descending to the towns of Burguete (in Basque, Auritz) and Espinal (Aurizberri), then reaches the Mezkiritz pass. From Mezkiritz, there is a steep descent through small charming Navarrese villages down to the Arga river, which will accompany us on this and the following stages. At the end of the day, we enter Zubiri via the Gothic bridge that gives the town its name, also known as the Bridge of Rabia — attributed with curative powers. According to another legend, under one of its abutments lies the body of Saint Quiteria.
