The Kramer – or also called "Kramerspitz", as the mountain’s official name is – is primarily a magnificent viewpoint over the Zugspitz ridge, but also offers interesting views of the neighboring Ammergau Alps. You can climb the mighty ridge via the western ridge from the Stepbergalm or from the east side over the Mittergern. Both paths are secured with wire ropes at some points, but the sections on the west side are shorter, so it is better suited for those who prefer a less difficult route.
You will rarely encounter overcrowding on the Kramer due to the nearly 1300 meters of ascent and descent and the rocky sections on the ridge. For a typical mountain route in the Ammergau mountains, the Kramer is well-visited though: two refreshment opportunities tempt visitors at the Kramer, namely Stepbergalm in the west and St. Martin in the southeast. If you want to use both, a crossing from St. Martin over the Kramer down to Stepbergalm is recommended. This way, you combine the somewhat more difficult ascent with an easier descent. Those traveling by public transport can also save the return walk over the Kramer plateau to the starting point.
