From the Schabalm a wide and well-marked path leads to the Tappenkarsee. A lakeside path leads to the Tappenkarseealm 1768 m. From here you climb east on a marked trail to the Draugsteintörl. A ridge-near trail leads south over the Gurenstein 2219 m to the Karteistörl, with a wonderful panoramic view. From the Karteistörl a trail leads northwest to the Tappenkarsee hut 1820 m; a stop here is always worthwhile. From the hut, you descend to the lake, go back west along the lake, and return to the starting point.
