A seven-day route through the heavily glaciated Stubai area from the Oberrisshütte to the Pinnisalm. The route includes several high mountain passes and passes through very different types of terrain.
As mentioned before, the Stubai Alps are heavily glaciated. Yet it is quite possible to do a trek from hut to hut without having to cross a glacier. The route includes five mountain passes above 2700 meters. This naturally means we will walk through very different types of terrain: forest, grassy slopes, boulders, scree slopes, and here and there smaller or larger snowfields. We will absolutely not be on glaciers!
We walk along the Franz Sennweg towards the Alpine mountains. Then we walk the entire Stubai High Trail along the main ridge. Here and there we make use of the available steel cables, but the vast majority must be overcome by physical effort. In good weather, we then walk the high trail along the Habicht ridge. The confidence (surefootedness) built up in the past days serves us well. The next day we literally leave the Habicht to the left and stroll calmly to Pinnisalm, from where a taxi takes us to Neustift.
Note: This route was previously listed by the NKBV. Due to possible changing conditions, you are always responsible for checking the current route conditions yourself. Get information at the local tourist office or from the experts of the respective region, so you can go safely and prepared.
