The name Stagor originates from the time of the great migration when the Slavs discovered and settled the Upper Carinthia area. How did the Slavs feel exploring the unknown Drautal valley? The feeling of exploring unfamiliar terrain and seeing new panoramas can be experienced on the route to Stagor. You hike with views from the Radlberger Alm to the summit, the Hohe Tauern unfold to the viewer from an unusual perspective, and you feel the desire to discover more of the untouched Kreuzeck group. By the way, the name Stagor derives from the Slavic word Stoder, which means pillar.

    Roadbook

The ascent to Radlberger Alm is done as described in route 4 (Radlberger Alm). From the barrier, continue on foot to Radlberger Alm. From the Alm, follow the route to the Litzlhoferlacken (route 5). Once you have reached the distinctive cairn at the Litzlhoferlacken, keep left and hike along the southeast flank of the Speikbichl for about 20 minutes to Stagor (2,289m).

An alternative route is offered to the ambitious mountain hiker: From Steinfeld, drive up to Flattachberg to the highest homestead at about 1,100m above sea level. From here, follow the access road on foot upwards through several hairpin bends until at about 1,300m a small path branches off to the left. Varied – but quite steep – you hike upwards along the southern ridge. At about 2,000m altitude, you cross to the west flank and eventually reach the summit via it. The last meters into the summit notch are somewhat rocky and roughly secured with wire ropes. The full-day hiking experience is completed if you do the route as a crossing and descend via the Radlberger Alm.
