The Serles is also called the "High Altar of Tyrol" due to its impressive view from Innsbruck. Because of its exposed location, you can enjoy views over the Karwendel mountains, the Stubai Alps, the Tux and Zillertal mountain regions, and even as far as the Dolomites. The path up is very varied and leads through forest, a belt of mountain pines, and stony open terrain to the Serlesjöchl. From the pass, you have to overcome a ladder and a short secured section with steel cables. Apart from this one spot, the path to the Serles does not present any special challenges. At the end of the route, you have the opportunity to stop at the Maria Waldrast monastery inn.

From the parking lot at the Maria Waldrast Monastery, walk a few meters to the fountain in front of the pilgrimage church. There begins the marked path no. 121, which first leads through a forest with numerous tall roots. After leaving the forest behind, you cross a belt of mountain pines at the foot of the mountain. Then it continues in the Serles valley above the tree line over scree and stones up to the Serlesjöchl. At the key spot with the iron ladder, watch out for possible "traffic" from above. After overcoming the ladder and the short passages with steel cables, the path leads with countless short switchbacks towards the goal. A view from the summit with the cross downwards shows the Wipptal valley and its side valleys to the south and the Inn valley and the state capital Innsbruck to the north.
