From the Zermatt station follow the ascending path northwards up to a junction at 1820m. Now steeply left in switchbacks up to Alp Schweifinen. Continue on the path to a mountain shoulder at point 2503. Now continue straight on the path to the mountain guesthouse, slightly descending to the Trift mountain guesthouse. (The direct path via the Edelweiss restaurant is closed.)

Behind the Trift mountain guesthouse continue on the marked path (Rothorn hut is signposted) uphill to the beginning of the Vieliboden cirque. Through it upwards in a northwesterly direction to the beginning of an old glacier moraine. Steeply over this, partly in switchbacks, steeply uphill to the hut.

From Visp in the Rhone Valley follow the cantonal road towards Zermatt/Saas Fee to the roundabout behind Stalden. Here turn right, continue following the cantonal road until it ends at the car park in Täsch.
