Rosenbach-Rosenbach Saddle-Mojstrana

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE:

Bf. Rosenbach-Bärental Power Plant-Customs Hut-Bärengraben-Rosenkogel Hut-Rosenbach Saddle/Rožca-Rosenkogel/Hruški vrh-southeast of Frauenkogel/Dovška Baba-Dovška Rožca-southeast of Bela peč-Dovje-Mojstrana/Hostel Lukn'a

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE:

1. We leave the station building (599 m) and, guided by the Carinthian Way of St. James, head downhill along Rosenbacher Straße to the southwest, passing by the guesthouse. At the bend, together with the Julius Kugy Three-Country Trail, the Southern Alps Trail 603, the Carinthian Border Trail, the Southern Alps Panorama Trail, and paths 10 and 9, we follow an access road straight ahead.

2. East of the toll station we reach the Bärental power plant after about 1.4 km, turn southeast and cross the Rosenbach. We follow a main forest road (HWW), now with the Southern Alps Trail 603A, the Southern Alps Panorama Trail (variant), and path no. 678, slightly ascending, and take the 1st break, 745 m, 3 km.

3. We are in the middle of the Bärengraben, ignore a forest road branching off to the right after approx. 100 m, and meet a trail junction uphill after approx. 1.8 km (to the left the trail leads to the Quadia). We keep half-right, cross a brook in the Bärengraben, and shortly afterwards at the hiking junction take the 2nd break, 945 m, 5.3 km.

4. We follow the path steeply southwest and meet the main forest road again - we turn left, southwest, and after approx. 200 m at the bend take the 3rd break, 1170 m, 6.1 km. Back on the path we hike with a slight ascent at first and shortly before the Roschitza Hut/Rosenkogel Hut steeper uphill and take the 4th break near the unmanaged hut, 1405 m, 6.9 km.

5. We cross the alpine pasture area/Roschitza Alm west of Hahnkogel/Klek and follow the now steep ascent to the magnificent viewpoint Rosenbach Saddle/Rožca (5th break, 1586 m, 7.9 km).

6. We follow both WWW paths further west and, steadily ascending, reach an inviting seating area with a magnificent view at Rosenkogel/Hruški vrh near Sv. Izidor (highest stage point) (6th break, 8.9 km, 1776 m).

7. The two WWW paths lead us with a view of Frauenkogel further northwest. After about 400 m we turn half-left at a fork and walk south of Frauenkogel/Dovška Baba. After about 1.3 km we pass a property at Dovška Rožca and head southwest towards the forest edge.

8. A steep, well-marked path takes us further down to the upper Sava Valley or Mojstrana - after about 700 m we walk on a main forest road coming from the left, which we leave after about 300 m to the right, southwest. The natural trail passes southeast of Bela peč and meets another forest road after about 800 m - here we take the 7th break, 1200 m, 12.7 km, in a clearing.

9. We go at a sharp angle to the southeast to soon leave the forest road again (at a sharp angle) to the northwest - after about 1.4 km we meet a forest road coming from the left, which leads us further downhill to the village of Dovje.

10. Shortly afterwards we walk west on an asphalt road past interesting information boards into the center of Dovje. The two WWW paths show the way left, south just before the pizzeria - we cross the main road 201 and the Sava Dolinka/Wurzener Save. After visiting the Slovenian Mountaineering Museum/Slovenski planinski muzej in Mojstrana, we hike back northeast to Hostel Lukn'a (651 m, 16.6 km).
