The route has three key points:- The snowfield shortly after Pitztaler Jöchl (possibly spikes in bare ice conditions)
- The ascent to the saddle between the northern and southern Polles Kogel (fixed rope steep passage about 30 vertical meters)
- The ascent on the return path to the hut shortly before point 2,966 on the Alpine Club map. (Spikes are needed here to proceed in bare ice conditions).

Roadbook
Descent:
From the summit, a short return and then continue on the path towards the Northern Polles Joch (Mainzer Höhenweg). Shortly before the saddle, the path branches off towards the Braunschweigerhütte. Here descend on a narrow path and go beneath the Polles Kogel to a snowfield. Over this ascending until reaching the fixed ropes. Ascend steeply and continue up to point 2,966 m. Then you reach again the ascent route, follow it back to the hut.

It is best to plan your travel by public transport on the following websites of the Tyrol Transport Association, www.vvt.at. You can reach Ötztal station with the Austrian Federal Railways, www.oebb.at. Then on foot via the Jägersteig path to the Braunschweigerhütte.Directions
Coming from Innsbruck on the A 12/E60 to the motorway exit Imst/Pitztal. Then drive on the Pitztal state road to Mittelberg. Then in 2 hours on the Jägersteig to the Braunschweigerhütte.Parking
