Mountain tour from Lenggries to Brauneck via Kotalm
Tourismus Lenggries
Not for hot days is the brisk ascent to the sunny alpine meadows and huts in the Brauneck ski area - unless you get lazy and go up like most tourists by gondola. Either way, you are rewarded with a magnificent view of the Karwendel and Wetterstein. Although the round route mostly follows partly signposted vehicle paths, street shoes are not recommended due to some slippery sections. Up to the Kotalm, the ascent follows a popular training route for hardcore mountain bikers. From the Draxlalm it goes left (westwards) on a cart path flat over meadows upwards, then a vehicle path leads us right through forest first alongside a brook, then in switchbacks fairly steep up to the meadows in the lift area. Above the Kotalm we cross to the left and follow a hiking trail up to a saddle (mucky at the end). Behind this northwestwards in the forest we cross, now northwards somewhat slippery up to a piste with meadow, on this shortly left, then right to a shoulder below the Brauneckbahn mountain station, which we reach via an iron staircase. From here first a few meters left on the panorama path, then sharply right to the serviced Brauneck summit house (1540 m) and up to the summit of the Brauneck (1555 m). Initially it goes westwards on the ridge (high path) towards Schrödelstein, before this left down to the panorama path (vehicle path) and hike on this southwestwards down to the serviced Quenger Alm. Now westwards we reach via the shoulder at the Latschenkopf hut the Stiealm with the serviced Idealhang hut (1520 m). Descent: We return to the Quenger Alm, take the vehicle path to the right and hike past the Bayern hut (temporarily closed) and the Finstermünz Alm (served only in winter) southeastwards down to the forest. It continues to the clearing of the Filzalm and eastwards down to flat meadows. At the sign "Brauneck Bahn" we turn left onto a meadow path and after passing some fence passages reach the car park.
