Popular route from Sella Nevea, the circular route to Monte Robon. The war path - lovingly called the donkey path - leads to the impressive karst plateau - the summit is tricky.

The landscape attractive in all directions around Sella Nevea offers a multitude of routes, making the choice difficult. A medium but strenuous destination is the ascent via the military road to the karst plateau in the shadow of prominent north faces; mostly flat and well developed to the east up to a clearly visible Sella Robon Pass with bivouac shelter. From here a tricky ascent to the highest point of Monte Robon, with maps indicating a main summit - another very near accessible summit with a cross (7 meters difference). The broken summit landscape with deep holes and abyssal areas is not easy to conquer or survey. The return route via the bear’s pit on the northern slope of Col Lopic is rather long and exhausting. The advantage of this route is the north side - giving shade in summer - and the event of the Turk's cap lily, which blooms abundantly at the path edge at the end of June. Many prefer the circular route clockwise.

Roadbook
From the Sella Nevea Pass (large parking lots) go straight south past very old hotel buildings and ascend the slope on the left side via trail 636, faded signposts, a removed marker - uphill in switchbacks through the forest for about 90 minutes until you reach the trail junction 636a - 637: well signposted. Then abruptly turn east onto trail 637 and proceed on a fairly clearly visible military road, which leads mostly flat through the rugged karst landscape. After about another hour, you see ahead (to the east) the summit structure of Monte Robon (not to be confused with Monte Rombon), to the right the Robon Pass, military structures, and a bivouac. After a short descent and ascent to the Sella Robon, you pass military structures and reach the bivouac. Now there is a small peak to the southeast, Vrh Laskih Brezicev 1897m. Here the average hiker’s goal is reached. The summit route goes past the bivouac on the left on faint paths - no markings - cairns - into a steep, deeply eroded, and exposed terrain toward the summit. Terraced stones help with the steepness. After about 10 minutes cairns show left and right directions. The passable summit route to the cross goes right, a rotted bridge must be crossed with a straddle step (exposed), then the summit is reached without difficulty. Recommended only for experienced alpinists. Descent as ascent - at an elevation of 1802 - a large sediment basin, south along the stream bed to markings. These first lead impressively under the west face of Robon - later through many switchbacks and cliff sections downhill on trail 637 - finally into the forest of the northern slopes of Col Lopic - to a gravel road and over a short asphalt section of the main road back to the starting point.
