Selected alternatives for you

A very rewarding glacier route that is comparatively less difficult in relation to the summit height, leading to a very beautiful viewpoint summit. However, the demands of the altitude and the crevasse danger must not be underestimated!

The summit ascent of this magnificent glacier massif can also be booked individually with a state-certified mountain guide. Experience unforgettable moments amidst a breathtaking mountain backdrop. Information about the route can be found here.

If you want to breathe high alpine air and walk almost the full length of the Pasterze without having to face major alpine challenges, this is probably one of the most rewarding mountain routes overall. The Oberwalderhütte divides the route into two pleasant stages. However, a mountain over 3,300 meters high should not be underestimated. In bad visibility conditions, especially inexperienced people should avoid long glacier tours. All the more, with good visibility, the breathtaking panoramic view from the summit will delight us.

    Roadbook

From the Franz-Josefs-Height through a clearly visible portal to the Gamsgrubenweg. 800m through six tunnels that protect against rockfall and at the same time serve as an exhibition. Then continuing with a slight incline, past the special conservation area "Gamsgrube" (stay on the path!).
In front of the Wasserfallwinkelkees, we cross the glacier stream in a northern direction over a small bridge and follow the marker poles over the smoothed rock ridges until we enter the not entirely crevasse-free glacier field (Wasserfallwinkelkees). A path leads over the steep eastern flank of the Burgstall to the Oberwalderhütte.
From the hut, head north over the gently rising ridge to the edge of the glacier. Below the Eiswandbichl, we cross the firn field upwards towards the gentle ridge. Then continue over eroded rock to the south summit. From here a few meters exposed descend into the Eiswandscharte and further to the north summit.

    Descent like ascent.
