In earlier times – still without modern equipment – one was constantly exposed to weather, wind, and fog in the mostly pathless mountains. Landmarks in the treeless terrain in the form of stone towers were often lifesaving. A truly magnificent specimen can be discovered when taking the path to the Litzlhofer Lacken. These monuments, mostly located far from any civilization, are often attributed a spiritual power. They have not lost their function as orientation aids to this day.

Roadbook
The drive or ascent to Radlbergeralm (1,783 m) is as described in route 4 (Radlberger Alm), from the barrier along the gravel road to Radlberger Alm, from there continue walking uphill along the access road until a few minutes after the first hairpin turn an inconspicuous path branches off to the left (barely marked). This leads uphill over a southeast-exposed ridge into a saddle beneath the Hoher Stand. Here, a “bench” – with a magnificent view deep into the Drautal – invites you to rest. The continuing path leads the hiker past the Hoher Stand into a distinctive pass. A breathtaking view opens up to the Hochalmspitze. Then walk along the north side of the ridge, past the Platteckspitze, into a wide saddle. A short climb and you are already in front of the massive stone cairn by the Litzlhoferlacken (2,180 m). Its location – nestled between two mountain summits – the magnificent view of the Kreuzeck group and the Hohe Tauern, as well as the spiritual power of the cairn, give the place the character of a place of power. The spot invites lingering and discovering inner peace. The return route follows the ascent path.
