Easy to Lignitzsee (gravel road & marked hiking trail). Further way to Graunock (SSE and SW ridge) unmarked, pathless & partly steep. There, steep grass and a few very short sections up to maximum difficulty grade I. From Lignitzsee sure-footedness and some sense of route finding needed.Tips and suggestions
Interesting facts:
On the ascent to Lignitzsee, traces of the huge landslide on Hundstein to the left (west) can still be seen, which occurred on Christmas night 1768. The alpine meadow northeast below Hundstein was buried by an estimated million cubic meters of rock up to 50 meters high – and has since fittingly been called Ödkar.

Roadbook
Approx. 2.5 hours from the starting point to Lignitzsee. From there approx. 1.5 hours to the summit.
From the parking lot at the starting point, always hike or pedal along the gravel road into the Lignitztal.
From the Hintere Lignitzalm (1,560 m) onward, driving is prohibited. At the latest from here, continue on foot along the road into the valley. After about 1.4 kilometers, at approx. 1,640 m above sea level, turn right onto a hiking trail (signs: “Lignitzsee”, “Lignitzhöhe”) – briefly steeper through sparse forest, then rather comfortably into the valley – over alpine pastures to the beautifully located Lignitzsee (1,965 m) – cross west south of the lake, then ascend the slopes northwest and finally rather north towards the SSE ridge – steeply uphill along the (mostly quite wide) ridge (partly steep grass, a few small rock steps can mostly be bypassed) – the ridge runs out on a flat shoulder east of the summit – from here, cross west to the uppermost SW ridge and shortly over it to the summit.
Descent:
Approx. 1 hour from the summit to Lignitzsee. From there approx. 1:45 hours to the starting point (much faster by bike!).
From the summit, always descend along the SW ridge – short rock passages (max. I) can be climbed over or mostly more easily bypassed a few meters to the right below the ridge on the west flank – over the SW ridge, the broad saddle between Graunock and Blutspitze is reached – from here, descend the steep slopes to the southeast – on these slopes, it is best to keep to the left edge (in descent direction) and continue down on a small bounding ridge – finally back over gentler slopes to Lignitzsee, or descend earlier to the southeast, thereby reaching the marked ascent path further down (at approx. 1,890 m, south of Lignitzsee). Further descent along the ascent path.
Public transport
The former valley bus line to the Lignitztal is currently discontinued (status: summer 2016).The starting point is thus no longer accessible by public transport.
