The four-day Kaisertour is an "imperial" dream route for experienced mountain hikers
Experience the magnificent mountain backdrop of the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser. Realize a personal adventure and cross the Kaisergebirge through the Kaisertal on this moderate hiking route, passing impressive steep walls – classics of climbing history!
This great hut route is best done using public transport. So leave the car in the garage and help preserve this unique mountain landscape!
The fourth day of the Kaisertour takes us from the Weinbergerhaus (1272 m) to the Hintersteiner See and the bus stop on the way home. You can choose between an easier and a more demanding variant:
Either go over the Hochegg (1470 m) to the Walleralm and down to the valley, or climb over the Widauersteig (not continuously secured!) to the Scheffauer (2111 m). The descent goes via the Steiner Hochalm and the Hintersteiner See down to the valley to the bus stop.

Roadbook
Day 3: - Easy variant: Weinbergerhaus - Hochegg - Walleralm - Steinerne Stiege
- More demanding variant: Weinbergerhaus - Widauersteig - Scheffauer - Steiner Hochalm - Steinerne Stiege
After a hearty breakfast, the path first takes us over to the Kaindlhütte. There you have two options.
Easier variant:
At the first fork, follow the path up to the Hochegg (1470 m) and then comfortably downhill over the Walleralm and Reher to the Steinernen Stiege (bus stop).
More demanding route for experienced hikers via the Scheffauer:
A path leads southeast first through forest to a cirque beneath the Scheffauer north face. Here begins the not continuously secured Widauersteig (via ferrata equipment and helmet recommended!), which leads to the summit ridge of the Wilder Kaiser and further to the Scheffauer (2111 m). After the summit joy, you descend back to the saddle, then down south and reach after about 1.5 hours a fork where you turn right to the Steiner Hochalm (1257 m). At the Steiner Hochalm, follow the signs to Bärnstatt/Hintersteiner See and after almost an hour you reach the St. Leonhard chapel and Bärnstatt inn on a paved road; turn right and after a few minutes you reach the Hintersteiner See at the Café Seestüberl in Bichl. For the lake circuit, there are now two options: either follow the peaceful lakeside path on the south side of the Hintersteiner See, past the eponymous Hinterstein to Hagen, or follow the road on the north side through Hinterstein to Hagen. Both paths meet again here. From there, follow the signs to the Steinernen Stiege. Descend steeply until you reach the bus stop "Steinerne Stiege" right at the federal road to Kufstein.
Easy variant: ascent 340 m, descent 980 m, 5 hours.
Demanding variant: ascent 1020 m, descent 1660 m, 6–7 hours.
The total walking time is given without major breaks
Scheffauer (2111 m)
