Safety information
If you take the easier path in the area of Glatzschneid (as described in the route) there are no difficult passages to master! This branches off about 50m before the shelter hut, which stands just before the terrain edge, to the right (east) in the direction of ascent!Roadbook
From Lucknerhaus first along a small path to a forest road. Following some switchbacks on this and then along a mule track over beautiful meadows to the Glorerhütte in the Bergertörl. After a stop at the cozy Glorerhütte, it initially goes slightly downhill towards Heiligenblut, but already after about 300m we turn left at a signpost towards the Salmhütte. Here we see the Großglockner in all its splendor for the first time. Now it goes over beautiful alpine pastures, past small alpine lakes with a magnificent view of the Großglockner. The glaciers of the Hoher Sonnblick can also be seen far to the east. After half an hour you reach a terrain edge, the so-called "Glatzschneid," from which you look down into the Leitertal. On the opposite slope lies the Salmhütte. From here there are two options: either follow the secured path, but be especially careful with old snow patches in early summer or after cold front breaks, or choose the much easier variant and go down a meadow path - just before the shelter hut turn right (east) - down into the Leitertal and then climb up again on the opposite side (it looks longer but isn't!). We choose the easier variant so that we don't have to walk any segment twice on our way back.
After descending into the Leitertal (about 90m descent) we cross the Leiterbach and ascend over the meadows to the Salmhütte. Just before the hut, pay special attention to the plants - here some edelweiss always grow almost by the path!!
After the well-deserved lunch break, we turn west and climb the Pfortscharte, at 2828m the highest point of the route. From here we see again into the Ködnitztal and can already recognize the Lucknerhaus below.
