Hochkalter Crossing

From Hintersee, ascend to the Blaueishütte and continue to the remains of the old hut walls, then go right and climb up a distinctive scree chute to the prominent notch of the "Schöner Fleck." This is reached from the right via well-gripping, larch-studded slabs (I – II). At the notch, keep left and ascend to the right of the ridge over boulder-strewn terrain to a 15m high slabby rock wall. Climb over this on good holds (II, crux) into easier terrain on the summit structure of the Rotpalfen. Bypass this and continue on a well-passable ridge over the Kleinkalter to a notch. Here the terrain steepens again, leading over short, exposed climbing sections to the summit of the Hochkalter. From the summit, descend down steep rocky terrain into the uppermost Ofental and follow this down to the tree line. The wide path starting here leads through the forest back down to Hintersee.
