We start from the parking lot near Edelrautehütte and follow route 944a, heading north, north-west. Through the peat bog, by the lake Kleiner Scheibelsee, we continue along the path until we reach the stream Ochsenkarbach, which we cross and start ascending a slope covered with rhododendrons. After ascending about 400 meters in elevation (about 3 km), we reach approx. 2000 m altitude at lake Gefrorener See. From here, we continue steeply upwards about 200 m to the saddle Gamsscharte (2216 m). We turn left and proceed along the ridge on route 944 to the summit Sonntagskarspitze (2350 m). From here, we continue along partially secured sections (chains/ropes - A/B) about 1.5 km, to the goal of our route, Großer Bösenstein (2448 m). Here we turn right and start descending to the saddle Elendscharte (2323 m), beyond which is a junction where we keep left towards Kleiner Bösenstein (2395 m), which we reach in about 5 minutes. We continue further descending gradually along the ridge until after about 2.5 km we reach another peak Großer Hengst (2159 m). From there we descend more steeply back to the Edelrautehütte hut.
