Scenically very beautiful route to a dominant lookout mountain. The path partly leads over loose gravel and scree and therefore requires surefootedness and a head for heights.

From the Bertahütte, head south on the marked hiking trail first over a wide saddle, later partly rougher terrain to the notch and finally to the summit of Mittagskogel.

    Author’s recommendation

For experienced mountaineers, the path over the partly exposed northeast ridge is an option (unsecured climbing spots). More information can be found here and from the hut staff.

    Safety information

Surefootedness and a head for heights are required. Experience in rocky and loose terrain is expected.

    Roadbook

Behind the Bertahütte, first follow the red-marked hiking trail no. 680 over the wide saddle in a southern direction. The path turns into a trail that winds up through rugged terrain to the notch of Mittagskogel. At the notch, keep right and climb the last section along the ridge to the summit, from which you have a wonderful view of Lake Faak and the Villach basin.
