Crossing Litnisschrofen via Strindenschartenkopf
A moderate to difficult mountain route, initially on a normal ascent path directly to the Litnisschrofengipfel, followed by a challenging ridge crossing that can be described as a wild path for those driven by a pinch of adventurous spirit, provided that you are absolutely sure-footed and fearless of heights. Upon reaching the Strindenscharte, the tour then continues leisurely along a forest road stretch with small shortcuts. Perfect to review the experience once again. Overall, a mountain experience of a special kind.
Described in the opposite direction by Hartmut Wimmer, but even in the mountains, the direction of a hike is a change in perspective:
Beautiful circular hike characterized by an incredible panorama with many great impressions and the thrill of adventure through a long ridge walk. The overall tour should not be underestimated, as we are on difficulty level T4 from the Litnisschrofengipfel onwards. Avoid in wet, snowy conditions due to quite crumbly rock. Not suitable for family hikes or hikes with dogs.
The view compensates for all efforts. I recommend the hike in this direction, even though finding the path around Strindenschartenkopf is not easy. For this, you are mostly going slightly downhill with a few ascents. If you are still willing, you can easily climb the approx. 200 m elevation to Sulzspitze from the Strindenscharte.
In summer, the Obere Strindenalpe and Edenbachalpe invite you for a refreshing stop.

We start at the parking lot and follow the signs left in the direction of Litnisschrofen on a forest road. After a short time, a forest road branches off to the left towards Krinnenalpe, which soon becomes a hiking trail. Now we follow the signs for Litnisschrofen and turn right over a small bridge. Now steadily uphill, partly through meadows and forest, we reach the saddle before the Gräner Ödenalpe, which already invites you to stop for refreshments in summer. However, according to the rules of the art, we restlessly continue through grass and dwarf pine terrain towards Litnisschrofengipfel. The difficulty now increases significantly as the entire summit ascent is secured with wire ropes (T4). After about 2 hours of walking, you reach the summit of Litnisschrofen with a magnificent panorama. It's worth taking a moment here to admire the mountain world of the Lechtal Alps, the Allgäu Alps, the Mieming range, Daniel, the Ammergau Alps, the Wetterstein mountains, the Estergebirge, and much more.
The path then follows the ascent route downhill in the rocky area. Instead of descending, we follow the red Alpine Club markings towards the ridge. As long as the AC markings are present, the path is easy to follow but not to be underestimated as it partly runs airy right along the edge of a drop-off.
The last AC marking indicates the only emergency descent to the right down into the valley. You can recognize the emergency descent area by the grass cover in the gully (the path is shown on the outdooractive map and partly on the OpenStreetMap). The path is not fully indicated down to the valley, but the lower section can be easily walked through meadows to the forest road.
From the last AC marking, the path clearly gains in difficulty. Sometimes you have to crawl through dwarf pines that have overgrown the path. In the key area of the Strindenschartenkopf, I crossed the northern scree gully (approx. 20 m light climbing – but in a fall hazard area) and then climbed the grassy ledge again to the summit of the head. Then, following the path further, you quickly and easily reach the Strindenscharte (duration of the ridge path about 1-1.5 h).
Now begins the phase of recalling and winding down. With a view back to the impressive ridge, we follow meadow crossings and forest roads back to the starting point. The total duration of the tour is about 5-6 hours.
