Back Tajakopf from Ehrwald
High above the emerald-green Drachensee lies the Back Tajakopf - which can be reached by a varied and scenic ascent. On the way is the cozy Coburger Hut.
The two Tajakopfs border the large cirque with the Coburger Hut and the Drachensee on the east side. The Back Tajakopf is secured for a few meters with a wire cable but remains a rewarding destination for sure-footed hikers due to the wonderful deep views, suitable for hut overnight stays or as a day route.

Roadbook
From the Ehrwalder Almbahn parking lot, after the valley station, turn right, go straight at a triple junction into the nearby forest and cross two streams. The path forks, keep right twice (always follow the signs "Hoher Gang").
Through high forest, ascend to the secured path "Hoher Gang" and continue through the rocky belt. Above the secured sections, the terrain levels off and you reach Seebensee, 1657 m, where you meet the alpine road.
Turn right, cross the Geißbach bridge and on the hut path with several switchbacks up to the already visible Coburger Hut, 1917 m. From the Coburger Hut, follow the marked hiking trail east towards Drachensee, around the lake and in several switchbacks to a grassy plateau east of the lake.
Soon you reach the junction Vorderer Tajakopf/Back Tajatörl and Grünsteinscharte. Here keep right and continue ascending southeast until at about 2200 m height you reach the fork Back Tajatörl/Grünsteinscharte. Now keep left towards the notch.
To reach the Tajakopf, don’t follow the path all the way into the notch but turn left a few minutes before and ascend under a rock tower north onto a grassy ridge. This leads to the ridge and climbs ruggedly, always on the right edge, up to the forepeak.
Now descend briefly into a notch where a exposed section (I) must be overcome. From the notch a wire cable assists, then continue over a slabby rock block. Above you stand on flat grassy terrain. Walk a few meters flat to the summit cross of the Back Tajakopf, 2408 m. The descent is by the ascending route.
