Author’s recommendation
Take enough drinks and food, as the first opportunity to stop for refreshments after St. Barthelomä is only at the Wimbachgries hut.

Overnight accommodation Wimbachgries hutRoadbook
From St. Barthelomä at the boat landing, turning left, follow along the lake towards Kärlinger Haus. From Eisbachgries it continuously goes uphill, passing the Schrainbach and Mausbach waterfalls, before the fork to the right towards Sigeretsteig. After crossing the Sigeretplatte (key point of the route) it continues steeply towards Trischübel, the transition to the Wimbach valley. A magnificent view into the valley rewards the effort. The descent into the upper Wimbachgries requires concentration at some points. The following Wimbachgries hut invites you to linger (overnight accommodation). Along the long Wimbach path, we reach the upper part of the Wimbachklamm on a steadily descending stretch, cross the gorge towards Schaphachweg, and then turn the path towards Hinterschönau. On a lightly trafficked paved road, it goes back to the parking lot at the boat landing in Schönau.
