2) Grächen - Alpja - Bordier hut
Challenging alpine hike to the SAC Bordier hut. The ascent is rewarded with a fantastic view.
No crampons are required for this mountain hike. In rocky heights, there is a good chance of encountering marmots. In early summer, thousands of alpine roses bloom around the alp. At the top, refresh yourself at the fountain with glacier water (not drinking water!). The SAC mountain hut is staffed from the end of June to mid-September.

At night overwhelming star density and magnificent sparkling starry sky: reserve your sleeping place in advance (online beforehand). Overnight stay is not possible without reservation.

Safety information
Use of the hiking trails and information on this website is at your own risk. Local conditions may cause changes to the route. Grächen and St. Niklaus tourism and trade assume no responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information on this website.
For all hikes:
- Carry a map with you. Download the complete description of the hiking trail with a large-scale map by clicking "Print" at the top right of the page.
- Use only marked hiking trails and observe all signs and instructions - for your own safety, to protect grazing animals, and out of respect for wildlife.
- Close gates again after passing through.
- Behave considerately towards other trail users, plants, and animals.
For mountain hikes:
- Carry additional sun protection. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, even in overcast weather.
- Plan your hike carefully: consider the required fitness level of all participants, weather forecasts, and seasonal dependencies.
- Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly and without warning. Proper clothing and sufficient provisions (food and drink) are very important. In unstable weather, it is better to turn back early.
For high alpine hikes:
- Inform your family about your hiking route. If possible, avoid being alone on the trail.
- Do not venture onto glaciers without a mountain guide.
- Observe warning signs indicating dangers on riverbanks, along waterways below dams and reservoirs: water levels can rise quickly and without warning.

Roadbook
Your demanding mountain hike leads you up from Grächen, past the sports center, through the refreshing larch forest. Follow the Suonen (irrigation channels) always further uphill towards the glacier gate. The varied path takes you over a small bridge over the rushing glacier water, past a beautiful picnic spot, continuing uphill to the "Alpja" (sheep alp) and further through the rocky landscape. Below the Ried Glacier border, it goes narrow and steep downhill to cross the earthy glacier field and then to the final sprint uphill to the Bordier hut at 2,800 m above sea level.
