Multi-day tour that involves a substantial amount of carrying and pushing your bike. The highlight is the climb of Mont Thabor.
This epic three to four day adventure can be started either from Valmeinier or Névache. During most of the uphills, you will have to push or carry your bike. You will be rewarded with epic descents and breathtaking views. In Valmeinier there is a cable car that can shorten the ascent by about 500 meters. It only runs during the high season in summer.
The downhills are 99 percent rideable for the experienced rider. If you have not ridden longer, natural trails in the alps, look elsewhere.
The loop in the Névache valley is a tour that is worth doing but can easily be left out.
Please note that this is a loop and it will be difficult to get back to your starting point if you decide to discontinue the tour on the way.
The overnight stays are either in mountain huts or rustic hotels. They all offer take away lunches to cover your day to the next hut.
Author’s recommendation
Try to avoid weekends and therefore the big crowds on Mont Thabor and try not to get too close to the large sheep herds that are protected by sometimes rather aggressive dogs.
