Pilis Bike Pilisi wine route (Pilisszántó Park+Bike)
Starting from Pilisszántó, an emblematic settlement of the Pilis, we circle the iconic mountain range from the south so that we can cycle free of serious climbs. The distance and elevation make it recommended also for beginners.
Starting from Pilisszántó, you immediately encounter sights within the first few meters, as the Lime Burners’ Well and the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin ensure that we stop to look shortly after starting to ride. Afterwards, cycling level along the mountainside, we enjoy a pleasant, not strenuous section with scenic views to the left of Pilisjászfalu and Piliscsév and their surroundings.
At the end of the section, a steep downhill reveals an important cultural monument, the castle of Klastrompuszta. Next to the ruins of the 13th-century church built by the Pauline Order, several caves, a lookout, and a buffet ensure we can spend quality time resting here.
From here, we just need to roll down a low-traffic paved road to Kesztölc, where by turning around, we can admire this scenic and exciting route in the opposite direction. Despite its short length, this route is particularly rich in sights and can be a meaningful small forest expedition for families, which refreshes the body and feeds the spirit.
Author’s recommendation
- If you want to save kilometers and elevation, you can even turn back at Klastrompuszta - so the descent to Kesztölc and the climb back up can be skipped.

Description:
Szántó-nyereg - Kesztölc (PB12)
- Terrain: gravel road, asphalt
From the parking lot, we head north towards the Stone Chapel along rocky paths. First, we pass by the lime burner’s well, which commemorates a now extinct craft passed from father to son. After about a hundred meters, it is worth taking a short detour to the chapel, as its atmosphere is captivating. Then we continue northwest, the direction we will follow for a while. We cycle along the side of the Pilis, with the mountain rising on our right and Piliscsév, Pilisjászfalu and their surroundings unfolding in the landscape to the left. We basically pedal on an unpaved road, but in many places, we can roll on soil reinforced with stones. A junction ends the comfortable ride, where the P sign crosses before us, but staying in our direction, we descend strongly and arrive at Klastrompuszta. Rolling out onto asphalt, we find the settlement opposite and the monastery ruins on the left. From here, we just need to roll down on asphalt to Kesztölc to reach the farthest point of the route.
Kesztölc - Szántó-nyereg (PB12)
-
Terrain: asphalt, gravel road
After a rest, we cycle back towards the forest on the low-traffic paved road connecting Kesztölc with Klastrompuszta. The quality varies greatly, from perfectly smooth, newly laid sections to cracked potholes. It’s a rare exception that here on the National Blue Trail we can legally cycle. Upon arriving at Klastrompuszta, take a short break before the next section, as entering the forest we will face a few hundred meters of steep, slightly technical terrain. After overcoming this, the route becomes easy again, progressing almost flat along the mountainside. We basically ride on a limestone soil road, but on a longer section, we can pedal on a nicely smoothed road sprinkled with fine gravel. This part of the route is a restful, calm segment of our tour.
After the stone niche, we are presented with a stunning view of Pilisszántó and its exceptional location. After admiring the panorama, we just need to roll down to the parking area located below us.
Public transport
