The PostBus takes you from Sierre to Grimentz at the starting point of the route. First, it goes steeply uphill (in the end even the strongest will push) up to the Col des Becs de Bosson. The view of the glaciers and the entire expanse is breathtaking. This raises anticipation: it is 2300 singletrail meters of elevation gain.
The descent into the Val d'Hérens is high, endlessly long, rough, gentle, and varied, fitting for Argentina. The first section is a well-ridable high trail right through rocky and rough terrain. Then it gets a bit greener and a sea of alpine roses follows. Then it goes over beautiful alpine meadows to Alp Lovégno where 800 meters of elevation have already been mastered. The next section leads through dense forest and then comes the village of Suen. Then the path goes through dusty dry and barren pastureland. The trail becomes even smoother and finally leads to the bridge over the Borgne stream. This is followed by a climb to the Bisse de Fan. Afterwards, it goes leisurely towards Vex. The last part from Vex to Bramois leads again over a singletrail.
After Sion, you ride through an industrial quarter - what a contrast to the high alpine idyll on the Becs de Bosson!
The train brings you back to the starting point Sierre.
Author’s recommendation
- PostBus Sierre - Grimentz: you must change in Vissoie, always with a direct connection.
- The bike transport on the PostBus must definitely be reserved! Between Sion and Sierre, a train runs about every 20 minutes.
