Roadbook
Our route begins at the marketplace in Medebach, leads into the 0rke valley through Medelon, Hesborn, and Liesen. On B 236 towards Winterberg, we reach Züschen and turn left near the town center towards Mollseifen / Bad Berleburg. Through Mollseifen and Girkhausen, we reach Dödesberg at the end of L 721 and keep right towards Winterberg.
From now on, take a breath and enjoy the best asphalt, lean angles, and sprint-fast straights under your wheels to Oberkirchen. Especially the stretch from Albrechtplatz (B 480 towards Schmallenberg) shows what the storm "Kyrill" caused in Sauerland. On the other hand, it also has its "benefits." There is an excellent panoramic view after the first hairpin bend, where there is also a parking lot. Upon arriving in Oberkirchen, we turn right towards Winterberg/Westfeld, shortly after the "mini village" (green sign) Inderlenne, turn left onto K 18, a side route to Winterberg. This section up to Altastenberg also offers grippy asphalt and plenty of curves. In the mountain village Altastenberg, turn left in the village center towards Sorpetal to Siedlinghausen. Behind Siedlinghausen it goes uphill at first; we remain on the country road through Altenfeld and Walbecke and then turn right towards Ramsbeck. The mountain museum Ramsbeck, where you can also dine "festively" underground, makes the town well known beyond Sauerland's borders.
Now it's uphill again towards Andreasberg, and further on we pass the leisure and adventure park "Fort Fun" in Wasserfall and enjoy the curvy descent to Heinrichsdorf and Elpe. Before reaching B 480 towards Brilon / Olsberg, we pass the towns of Brunskappel and Wiemeringhausen. In the "rosendorf" Assinghausen, we leave the federal road on the right and ride relaxed through Bruchhausen, uphill along the Bruchhauser Steine, and reach the intersection towards Brilon. Before Brilon, we turn right onto L 870, signposted Bredelar/Hoppecke, stay until just before the underpass, and then ride up the bridge towards Diemelsee. Here too, it's "mountain climbing" to turn left on the other side towards Diemelsee.
Construction work on the Diemelsee began as early as 1912 and was interrupted by World War I. Completion was in 1923 and commissioning in 1924. The Diemel dam has a storage volume of 19.9 million m³ and serves with its water to regulate the Mittelland Canal and the Weser. Incidentally, the power plant integrated into the dam with two turbines generates about 2.5 GWh of electricity annually. The majority of the lake is on the Hessian side, with a small part on the North Rhine-Westphalia side.
You can also take a great "motorcycle break" at the Diemelsee in the "Fährhaus." After passing the dam, along the Diemelsee lakeside road, we ride through Heringhausen, Rhenegge, Adorf, Vasbeck, and Massenhausen to Bad Arolsen. We stay on B 450, cross the Twistetal dam, and turn right towards Freienhagen about 9.5 km directly behind Landau. After about 7 km through the "Long Forest," we reach B 251 and turn right towards Korbach / Edertal dam. After Sachsenhausen and Niederwerbe, we reach the Edersee. Enjoy the ride along the Edersee lakeside road and please strictly observe the speed limits. Many have already lost their license here.
About 3 km behind the dam at the traffic light, turn left towards Affoldern, Mehlen, Gifflitz. In Gifflitz, turn right towards Kleinern. Until Frankenau, we now cross the "Wese valley," with the "Eder heights" on the right and the "Wildunger Mountains" on the left. Before Frankenau, in good weather, there is a unique panoramic view of the foreground Hochsauerland up to the Sackpfeife towards Biedenkopf. In Frankenau, at the turning priority, turn left and follow the sign to Allendorf / Frankenberg. At the end of the country road, we reach B253 towards Frankenberg. Frankenberg's old town is worth a visit, especially the town hall and the cobblestone-paved city center.
After Frankenberg towards Rengershausen, there is a real "curve treat" on good asphalt before we approach Hallenberg. After Hallenberg, we continue towards Medebach to Hesborn, where we turn right in the town center and approach the town of Dreislar. In Dreislar, follow the turning priority towards Medelon. From Medelon, we don't take the direct way back to Medebach, but make a detour via Glindfeld. Glindfeld monastery has a long history and tradition, going back to the 13th century. From Augustinian nuns through Crusaders to the forestry office, this monastery has seen it all. Today, the monastery hosts cultural events known beyond regional borders.
After this cultural detour, we reach the end of the route at Medebach.
