The winding road along the picturesque Côte d'Azur exudes a sense of freedom. Many people are amazed as soon as the impressive backdrop of the turquoise blue sea with views of the Moorish massif and St. Tropez unfolds in all its glory.
The Grande Corniche panoramic road runs largely along the former Roman road Via Julia Augusta and leads from the vibrant coastal metropolis of Nice to tranquil Menton. Napoleon had the grand boulevard built at the end of the 18th century in order to carry out a conquest of Italy. It was therefore initially of a purely pragmatic nature. Today, however, the route has a completely different reputation: Far beyond the country's borders, the Grande Corniche is regarded as a romantic panoramic route and a symbol of pure driving pleasure. Its special charm is also evident in the fact that it has served as the backdrop for numerous advertising clips and film classics such as the James Bond cult film "GoldenEye" or Alfred Hitchcock's "Over the Rooftops of Nice" from the 1950s.

We leave Nice East on the Grand Corniche panoramic road (officially signposted as "M 2564") and after about 2.5 km we reach the outskirts of the city. We see the peak of Mont Gros on our right and drive around it on the main road. The Grand Corniche then winds its way between mountain peaks and reaches Col d'Eze after a further 8 km. 6 km further east, we pass La Turbie and head directly towards the municipality of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, which is only around 7 km away. We now approach the coast via several hairpin bends and reach our destination of Menton after a further 6 km.
