The Water Way appears as a long route that crosses a morphologically homogeneous territory.
The route winds through the municipalities of Cellarengo, Ferrere, Valfenera, Villanova, Cantarana, and Tigliole. It is a territory of clayey lands, dotted with natural ponds, which for centuries have represented fundamental food and economic resources for the community; in particular, the precious variety of Golden Hump Tench, which has found its natural habitat in the shallow and warm waters of Poirino. Moreover, in recent years, thanks to its market affirmation, numerous farms have been established.
A peculiarity of the territory is indeed the presence of numerous artificial or semi-artificial basins, often adjacent to villages or farmhouses, born from the need to collect rainwater for irrigation and animal watering. Another important resource is the Blonde Hen, an egg-laying breed with the prerogative of having very tender and lean meat, from which sausage products are also made, once very common in Piedmont. It is a product appreciated not only in Italy but also abroad. Of particular historical and cultural interest is the Church of San Lorenzo in Tigliole, referable to the first stage of the itinerary, which features exquisite Romanesque architecture and is situated in a suggestive and panoramic position.
