Experience the Kreuzeck High Route in 5 days: high mountain landscape and rustic huts
The Kreuzeck High Route in the southern Hohe Tauern is an untouched high mountain landscape in the Kreuzeck group with great views, crystal-clear mountain lakes, and rustic huts.
Its highest peaks narrowly miss the magical 3,000-meter mark. Across this forgotten paradise runs the Kreuzeck High Route, a fabulously beautiful trekking route with fantastic panoramic views. On clear days, the view stretches from the glacier giants in the north to almost the sea in the south!
The Kreuzeck High Route has neither glacier-covered areas nor actual climbing sections but should definitely not be underestimated! Absolute surefootedness, a head for heights, and – despite marking – a bit of orientation skills are required – and, above all, stamina is paramount. Especially the 3rd and 4th stages are very long and demand not only corresponding endurance but also a very early start at the respective huts!
Summit challengers can climb three magnificent lookout peaks in a short time from the Salzkofel Hut, the Feldner Hut, and the Anna Shelter! These are: the Salzkofel at 3499m, the Kreuzeck at 2701m, and the Ederplan at 2062m.
It is recommended to reserve a sleeping place in advance at the huts, especially at the Hugo Gerbers Hut.
