Black Forest Northern Edge Path
The 56-kilometer-long path leaves the broadcasting town of Mühlacker via the Löffelstelz ruin and Dürrmenz, reaches the Eppinger Line at the height and follows this historic line on the further route. Over the Gaisberg, Öschelbronn, the Waldschanze with Chartaque, the path leads into the Enz valley. From Pforzheim-Eutingen, it reaches the northern heights of Pforzheim with views over the city via Wartberg, Hachelturm, and Wallberg. Above Dietlingen and Ellmendingen, the hiker finds vineyards and landscape down to the Black Forest heights at their feet. Downhill to Ellmendingen, the Pfinz valley is then walked through and past the hamlet of Langensteinbach, where a detour to the St. Barbara Chapel is worthwhile. An open landscape with views of the northern Black Forest, fields, and orchards awaits the hiker after leaving Langensteinbach behind. The highway is crossed under, Stupferich remains to the left, and past Thomashof and Rittnerthof, the Turmberg is reached. From here, in clear weather, there is a fantastic view over Karlsruhe and the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest and the Vosges. At the foot lies Durlach, which can be reached via stairs or more comfortably by the Turmbergbahn.

Stage 1: Mühlacker to Pforzheim
On its first stage, the northern edge path passes the Löffelstelz ruin and Dürrmenz, reaches the Eppinger Line at the height and follows this historic defense line further. Over the Gaisberg, Öschelbronn, the Waldschanze with Chartaque, and the Fürstkopf, Pforzheim-Eutingen is reached (20 km, train station). The stage leads along the northern edge of Pforzheim to the Wartberg (23.5 km). It is 25 km to Pforzheim’s main train station.
Stage 2: Pforzheim to Langensteinbach
From Pforzheim the path goes over Hachelturm, Wallberg to the northern heights of Pforzheim with views over the city. Above Dietlingen and Ellmendingen, vineyards and landscape extend to the Black Forest heights at the feet. Downhill to Ellmendingen, the way then continues through the Pfinz valley far past the hamlet to the destination at Langensteinbach. The hiker enjoys an open landscape with magnificent views of the northern Black Forest, fields, and orchards.
Stage 3: Langensteinbach to Durlach
On the scenic last stage of the northern edge path, we hike from Karlsbad-Langensteinbach to Karlsruhe-Durlach, the former Baden residence town of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach. The route leads mainly through shady woods and to great viewpoints with different perspectives. From the town hall Langensteinbach, the route runs via Rittnerthof and Turmberg to the center of Durlach and further to the station.
