Allgäu Idyllic Garden Route - Stage 3: Aitrang-Leuterschach
A wonderfully relaxed hike in the northern district for pleasure hikers who prefer distance over elevation.
A stage on the Allgäu Idyllic Garden Route - following nature's trail: A wide, large landscape garden like the castle park offers many small and idyllic places. Retreats that invite you to linger and dream. Step by step it goes embedded in nature over green meadows and fields, through bright forests, a wildly romantic gorge as well as over gentle hills, to quiet lakes and historic places. Now and then the Kings Alps also greet from afar. Gardens in the Idyllic Garden - those exist too: e.g., the monastery garden in the colorful old town of Kaufbeuren, the start and end point of the well over 60 miles long route, and in Marktoberdorf the Kurfürstenallee, whose end formerly formed the magnificent landscape backdrop of the castle park.

Tips and suggestions
Equipment: With good, well-broken-in hiking boots you are safe and without blisters on the way. For clothing, layering is recommended: a short and a long shirt (cotton dries poorly, so better wool or special sportswear), zipper pants, pullover, jacket, and rain cape. Also include change of clothes, headgear, sunglasses, sunscreen, first aid kit, and flashlight in the backpack.
Roadbook
The stage centrally starts at the church St. Ulrich. From here, follow Elbsee Street across the little Kirnach stream, cross a district road, and walk along the continuing street opposite until the first right turnoff (approx. 500 m). The turnoff leads to a hiking parking lot from which a wide path alternates between small forest patches and meadows. For the next approximately 1.7 km, do not pay attention to the turnoffs and follow the clearly visible main path. A straight path turning left leads to Seealpe with a wonderful beer garden. Here, keep left, cross the Elbbach, and walk along the edge of the Seemoos moor area to Elbsee. The Idyllic Garden Route continues for almost the next kilometer following the clearly recognizable main path. Then turn right at a T-junction. On this also paved wide path, walk to the next T-junction and here turn right. About 500 m to a turnoff, where the hike at first continues along a forest edge, then through the forest. At a small field barn, another path branches off, which again leads along the forest edge. After about 400 m, turn left again into the forest, crossing it straight through. After leaving the forest, the field path continues to an asphalt path, where you turn right to a few houses near Federal Road 12. From the federal road, first move away a bit again to then pass under the district road (Geisenrieder Street). On this, walk a short distance to the right, then turn left onto another farm road. On this, after almost two kilometers, a sawmill on a district road is reached. Following the district road briefly, turn left onto the next forked path, walk through the Eschenau settlement and shortly after cross the Wertach river. Follow the wide path to an agricultural property, which is passed following the path to the left. After about 300 m, leave the access road and walk left on a wide path again to the bank of the Wertach river. Until the Leuterschach industrial area Schwendener Street, the river now gives the direction. Upon reaching the industrial area, follow the route on Schwendener Street to the left to Leuterschach Street. Turn right and walk into the town center to the left turnoff of Mühlob Street.

Castle park tips for your route:
Provisions: Take enough water to drink with you. A snack also tastes especially good on the way.
Weather check: Best to check various services and ask locals familiar with the mountains, as it can quickly rain or storm in the mountains.
Companionship: You should not undertake a longer route alone, even if it seems easy and harmless. Always leave your route destination at your accommodation.
