Triesting-Gölsental Cycle Path
Attention: The cycle path is closed in the area Essentherstraße/Alleegasse up to Berndorf Factory from August 15 to September 5 due to forestry work. On weekends, the cycle path is repeatedly reopened (Fridays from 6:00 pm until Monday 6:00 am).
The 60-kilometer-long Triesting-Gölsental Cycle Path is one of the top cycling routes in Lower Austria and ideally connects the Thermen with the Traisental cycle paths.
Attention: Due to optimization measures, there will be obstructions on the Gölsental cycle path in St. Veit an der Gölsen until probably the end of May 2026. There is a signposted detour through the town.
A ride on the cycle path is a journey through changing landscapes. Accompanied by the rushing of the river, you cycle from the southern Vienna Woods, starting at Leobersdorf, on initially flat paths past Hirtenberg, Berndorf and Pottenstein. Further upstream, you cycle through the already alpine-looking landscapes of Weissenbach, Altenmarkt, Kaumberg and Hainfeld to St. Veit an der Gölsen. In Traisen, the route finally joins up with the Traisental cycle route. If you are heading in this direction and first follow the Triesting and then the Gölsen, you are also following a section of the old "Via Sacra " from Vienna to Mariazell. The transition from the Triestingtal to the Gölsental cycle path runs along the Gerichtsberg, overcoming just over 200 meters in altitude. "Sporting delights, cultural discoveries, cool refreshments" Ambitious cyclists will find challenging sections and mountain bike trails, especially in the area around Altenmarkt. Along the way, cultural gems such as the Araburg castle ruins or the Klein-Mariazell basilica invite you to explore. The many idyllic places along the banks of the Triesting and Gölsen rivers offer cool refreshments.
Characteristics: The sections along the Gölsen (between Traisen and Hainfeld) and the Triesting (between Kaumberg and Leobersdorf) are family-friendly day trips
A tip for a multi-day tour: If you first follow the Triesting and then the Gölsen, you are following the old "Via Sacra" from Vienna to Mariazell. There are just over 200 meters of altitude to overcome.
The Triesting - Gölsental cycle path is also part of the "Vienna Woods Cycle Tour", which runs for 215 km along the Triesting, Gölsen, Traisen, the Wiener Neustadt Canal and the Danube!
