To the upper Čierny Váh pumped storage reservoir in picturesque Liptov
A circular route with views of the High and Western Tatras from Dovalovo near Liptovský Hrádok leads to the reservoir, through Východná, Hybe, Breziny, and back. All the time with a view of the majestic Kriváň.
From Dovalovo past Červený kút (a mountain sheepfold with good refreshments and excellent cuisine), we passed Kráľova Lehota and ascended a steep 8 km long asphalt road to the upper Čierny Váh reservoir. Altitude 1160 m above sea level. The reservoir is one of the most beautiful viewpoints over Liptov and the surrounding mountain ranges, especially the High Tatras and the village of Východná nestled in the valley. We returned via the marked bike trail through the Čierna valley to Východná, known for its folk festivals. We rode along a field bike trail to the village of Hybe and past a gas station through meadows and fields to Breziny above Liptovská Kokava at an altitude of 800 m. Opposite us rose the peaks of the Western Tatras – Baranec, Otrhance, and Jakubiná. A descent through beautiful meadows and forest to the village of Dovalovo. On this last section, we saw many signs of bears’ presence (droppings, tracks of various sizes, and eaten cornfields).
