The approximately 130-kilometer route to Hallein in Austria starts in Rosenheim, where Bavarian tradition and southern joie de vivre meet. Between the colorful house facades in the old town, the impressive onion domes and wide squares, you feel immediately comfortable. A wonderful view of the rivers Inn and Mangfall as well as the Alps can be enjoyed just a few minutes' walk from the old town. Along the Simssee and the Chiemsee, the route takes us on the traces of salt through the Chiemgau and the Berchtesgadener Land to Hallein in Tirol.

1st Stage: Rosenheim – Simssee – Chiemsee – Grassau – Siegsdorf (approx. 55 km)
Our route starts at the endpoint of Rosenheim's last brine pipeline at the Salingarten and leads us along the Mangfall River. After crossing the Inn, we leave the city uphill towards Schloßberg. Once we have left Stephanskirchen behind, the path continues over hilly terrain on low-traffic roads. Past the Simssee, we pass through the towns of Riedering, Wolferkam, and Wurmersdorf. A small forest area is crossed, and after the town of Atzing, it's time to gather strength as it goes uphill towards Hittenkirchen. The view rewards every effort – with the mountains at our back, the Chiemsee lies at our feet. Downhill, we follow the path towards Bernau. A short detour to the Felden beach for a cooling swim in the Chiemsee or a boat trip to Herren- and Fraueninsel is highly recommended. The Saline Cycle Path then follows the B305 towards Grassau. From Bernau to Berchtesgaden, this is part of the Lake Constance-Königssee Cycle Path. The Tiroler Ache crosses our path, it continues to Bergen and then to the day’s destination Siegsdorf.
2nd Stage: Siegsdorf – Teisendorf – Piding – Bad Reichenhall – Berchtesgaden – Hallein / Austria (approx. 73 km)
Today's stage is the longer and more challenging of the two-day Saline Cycle Path tour. Our route begins in Siegsdorf and follows the Traun river until the town of Traunstein is reached. Stately townhouses and cozy squares can be found here, still bearing witness to its former importance as a salt trade city. The Saline Chapel Saint Rupert and Maximilian can be found in Au, below the old town. We leave Traunstein towards Teisendorf and reach the town of Piding along the Stoißer Ache. The next goal is Bad Reichenhall. Here, we should plan some time for a longer break, as a visit to the Old Saline should not be missed on our tour. Continuing southwards, we reach Berchtesgaden. We are now approaching the border to Austria. The final leg of the route is leisurely until we reach our destination Hallein.
