The Isar shows many different faces on its way from the source to the mouth. A ride along the nearly 300-kilometer-long Isar cycle path is therefore attractive for its landscapes – from the Karwendel mountains over moraine landscapes and the Munich gravel plain to the Danube valley. The natural conditions accordingly influence flora and fauna – rare plants and animals such as orchids and beavers can be admired.

Plenty of culture is offered by the many small and larger towns along the route. In addition, you will find numerous opportunities to stop and buy provisions.

Seen this way, the Isar cycle path is attractive for all types of cyclists: for racing cyclists as well as for those who enjoy the natural and cultural treasures along the route; for those seeking peace but also for those who want to dive into the nightlife in the evening; for singles, families or groups.

To reach the Isar spring, you first have to cycle upstream into the Hinterau valley from Scharnitz. The source, which is located in the middle of the (car-free) Karwendel Nature Park, is only accessible on foot or by bicycle. Following the signpost "Karwendeltäler" we cycle into the massive Karwendel mountain range. On the bank of the young, turquoise Isar flowing downstream through the valley, it goes on to the Isar source. The same way back to Scharnitz downstream to Mittenwald. Via Krün, Wallgau and Lenggries we reach Bad Tölz. Via Geretsried and Wolfratshausen we cycle to the state capital Munich. The Isar cycle path then leads us past Freising, Moosburg an der Isar and Landshut to Dingolfing. The last stretch takes us to the Isar mouth in Thundorf or via Plattling to Deggendorf.
