Leaving Cabanas de Tavira, you will pass some saltpans before reaching the historic city of Tavira, one of the most beautiful cities of the Algarve. The area next to the Gilão River is really charming and relaxing, where you can find the Roman bridge and the public garden. Very close by you can also visit the old castle area on the top of a small hill. Moving forward, the route is flat and pleasant with the path very well signposted. Riding toward Olhão you will pass by small fishing villages such as; Santa Luzia, known as the octopus capital; and Fuzeta, famous for its salt exploration and also its fresh fish. Continuing along the Ria Formosa bank you will get to Olhão, a very characteristic Algarve town and closely linked to the sea and fishermen. For this reason, the municipal market is undoubtedly a place to visit. Today’s destination is the capital of the Algarve, the city of Faro, located just 8 km away from Olhão.
